Sardinia Easter 2009

We went to Sardinia for a mixture of climbing, walking and relaxing. We stayed at La Pineta on the east coast near Bari-sardo. Good info on climbing, walking and biking in this area can be found at the website of the Lemon House B&B. Something we discovered for ourselves that I thought worth recording was a coast walk and scramble just south of Marina di Gairo at 39°44'36.63"N 9°40'31.22"E. The rock in this area is amazing.

Please note that this is a scramble, not a walk, be careful, don't go when it's wet, don't fall off...

Starting from the campsite car park at the north, walk along the beach and through trees to a cave and great bouldering rocks. Then actually along the coast here:

The coastal scramble ends with crossing a zawn via a truck-sized chockstone with the sea rushing through far below. Getting off the chockstone at the far side is the technical crux, some may want a rope. Then comes the least pleasant bit, a trackless section. However there is a path somewhere above you, but I'm not sure of the best route to it. We spent over a hour struggling through the undergrowth. When you do find the path you can follow it to the coastguard station further south, or back north over the hill and back to the car.

You can download the GPS log here.
