As a wannabe squeezebox player I have frequently been frustrated by my inability to play a tune "by ear". This piece of software goes some way to alleviating this by displaying a WAV file (a recorded sound file) as a score. To use it you record your friend playing the tune using Windows Sound Recorder or similar and then load the resulting file into the application. It is then displayed as a psuedo-score from which it may be played directly if you are familiar with the rhythm. It can also be exported as a MIDI file and loaded into a music editing application (such as Cakewalk, Sibeleus or Melody Assistant). It only picks out the loudest note at any point in the music so don't expect to see any chords!
Here is a screenshot. You can choose not to display the spectrum plot and the waveform so more of the screen is available to display the score.

The software is freeware. Click the link below to download a zip file containing the executable and associated help file. Just unzip this to a directory and double click the .exe file to run it. To test the program you might also like to download a WAV file of Juliette playing the Drumhills on her flute.
